This setting of the beloved Christmas hymn, Divnaja novina, is taken from the Metropolitan Cantor Institute's Byzantine Catholic Hymnal for Nativity and Theophany (2007). The English translation is by Monsignor William Levkulic.

Father Levkulic's setting was modified slightly as part of the Hymnal Project of the Metropolitan Cantor Institute. See the discussion page.

This melody is also used (generally at Christmas time) for the Cherubic Hymn of the Divine Liturgy. See Cherubikon melody - Divnaja novina.

This setting was originally printed in the booklet Christ is Born: Glorify Him (1969), by Monsignor Levkulic.

It was later published in the 1970 collection Byzantine Liturgical Chant, on page C3 (number 3 in the Christmas Carols section), and in the Hymns section of Monsignor Levkulic's The Divine Liturgy, a Book of Prayer (1978).

A different English translation (by Conrad Dachuk) can be found on pages 986-987 of the The Divine Liturgy: An Anthology for Worship (Ukrainian Catholic, 2004), titled "Tidings of Great Wonder." The melody is similar to that given above, but has much more melodic movement.
