Discussion

This is an example of a "hymn of the Passion" which works equally well during the Great Fast: rather than concentrating on the details of the Passion, it calls us to reverent acknowledgement of Christ's love for us, and his mercy to sinners.

This hymn would be particularly appropriate from the third Sunday of the Great Fast (the Sunday of the Veneration of the Cross) through the end of the Fast.
