Vošel jesi, Archijereju

This paraliturgical hymn, sung before hierarchical Divine Liturgies, is the final hymn in the Bokshai Prostopinije (1906), and the very first hymn in the Papp Irmologion (1970). From its alternate title in some collections (which omits the "Archi-" in the title), it seems it was sometimes using during non-hierarchical Divine Liturgies as well.

This is often considered a Latinization; the proper custom in our liturgical books is for the bishop to be greeted with the singing of one of the following:

It is truly proper - Dostojno Jest'
(the irmos of the day, if it is a feast)
Many years - Mnohaja L'ita - Ton Despotin (Greek)

The actual place of this hymn deserves some historical study. It is not (as some have claimed) a Slavonic translation of the responsary for a bishop in the Roman Rite, Ecce sacerdos magnus.

A simplified English version (with two verses instead of four) was included at the end of the 1988 service book, The Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom, from the American Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Greek Catholic Diocese of Johnstown, PA.

The hymn appears with musical notation on pages 190-190 in the Bokshai Prostopinje, where it is titled "At the hierarchical [episcopal] liturgy." Later reprints from the Byzantine Seminary Press sometimes included a second version. There are also harmonized settings from the Byzantine Seminary Choir, by Fr. Michael Staurovsky.

The Bokshai setting was reprinted, in Latin letters, on page 55 of Fr. Andrew Sokol's Plain Chant (c. 1950), under the heading "Na Liturgii episcopskoj - At a Pontifical Mass".

It was also printed on page 1 of Fr. Stefan Papp's Irmologion (1970). followed by a note which directs that during the preparation (prothesis or proskomedia) of the Divine Liturgy, other spiritual songs may be sung.
