Menaion

June 4

Our holy father Metrophanes, patriarch of Constantinople, who consecrated the New Rome to the Lord. He had borne witness to the faith in the persecution of the emperor Diocletian. (325)

The holy myrrh-bearers, Martha and Mary, who received the Lord Jesus into their home in Bethany near Jerusalem and were His friends. When their brother Lazarus had died, Martha confessed, "You are Christ, the Son of God who has come into the world."

At Vespers

music (samohlasen)

At "O Lord, I have cried": three stichera from the Octoechos, and three for the holy martyrs.

Tone 6, special melody Vsju otloživše.  You have been revealed as a holy God-bearer, having received divine anointing in the Holy Spirit, and without interruption you had access to the holy of holies, shining with divine splendor, by grace initiated as a priest to the mysteries of salvation. You are truly an illustrious bishop, intercede with confidence for our souls.

Blessed Metrophanes, your life has shown from the brilliance of virtues. They have dissipated the darkness of error. You were truly a bright sun, O holy bishop, and now you dwell where the light without evening shines, having become a son of the day by the grace of the Spirit. Now we celebrate your holy and splendid memory, O Metrophanes, and we glorify you with our whole hearts.

Your spirit drew its beauty from faith and love of God, and brightly deified, it has brought the state of incorruptibility into a mortal and corruptible body, to the point of acquiring the glory of the bodiless angels, a bright star, henceforth no longer subject to the passions. O Father and Bishop Metrophanes, we declare you blessed, as you intercede for our souls.

Glory, now and ever – Theotokion, or Stavrotheotokion

The aposticha are from the Octoechos.

Troparion, Tone 4.  Your life has shown you to your flock as a rule of faith, * an image of gentleness, and a teacher of moderation. * You acquired greatness through humility * and wealth through poverty. * O father and bishop Metrophanes, * intercede with Christ our God to save our souls.

Or:

Troparion, Tone 1. In preaching the great mystery of the Trinity, * you spread the Word of Christ throughout the world. * As the shepherd of Christ’s flock, you drove off the spiritual wolves ln their attack; * you save from perdition all those who call on you. * Glory to him who gave you this might! * Glory to him who chose you! * Glory to him who defends the true faith through you!
