At Vespers

music (samohlasen)

At "O Lord, I have cried", there are three stichera for the holy martyrs.

Tone 4, special melody Jako doblja.  Having submitted the impetousness of the flesh * and the pleasures of the body * to the bridle of temperance through faith, O blessed Nicon, * you set out fully armed against the Enemy. * You triumphed by the power of the Holy Spirit. * Then, O venerable father, * you became the leader of monks * following your wise and divine teaching.

Rising in the East like the sun, * O blessed father Nicon, * you filled the whole world with the light of your miracles, * leading after you the choir of your companions like radiant stars. * Having struggled together valiantly, * you were given over to the sword, * commending your spirits into the hands of the almighty Lord.

Neither hunger nor danger, * nor nakedness nor beatings, * nor violent death could separate you from the love of Christ, O admirable martyrs. * But, like lambs following their shepherd to the slaughter, * you came from the West, bearing your crowns, * to the never-ending rest in the Kingdom of God.

Glory, now and ever – Theotokion, or Stavrotheotokion

Troparion,  Tone 4.  Your holy martyrs, O Lord our God, * in their struggles, received an incorruptible crown from you. * With your strength, they brought down the tyrants * and broke the cowardly valor of demons. * Through their prayers, O Christ our God, save our souls.

Glory, now and ever – Kontakion, Tone 4.  By your holy life you assembled a choir * from those who had lived humbly * and had followed you before the throne of God on high. * Your radiance spans the heavens like the very sun, * and by the rays of your pains you disperse darkness * and wash out deceit by the torrent of your blood.
