Prayer for a Mother after Childbirth
The following texts, translated from the Roman Malyj Trebnyk (1952), are based on the work of the Inter-Eparchial Liturgical Commission of the Byzantine (Ruthenian) Catholic Metropolitan Church of Pittsburgh, and being made available for study by cantors enrolled in the courses of the Metropolican Cantor Institute. Deacon: Let us pray to the Lord.
Response: Lord, have mercy.
Priest: Sovereign Lord and Master, you heal every infirmity. Raise up your servant (name), who has (today) given birth, and grant her recovery. May she no longer remember her pain for joy that a child has been born into the world. According to the words of the prophet David, we were conceived in sins and all of us are guilty in your sight. Protect her and her child. Shelter her under the cover of your wings from this day to the end of her life, through the prayers of the most pure Theotokos and of all the saints, for you are blessed forever.
Response: Amen.
