At Vespers

music

At "O Lord, I have cried": three stichera from the Octoechos, and three for the venerable mother.

Tone 1, special melody Nebesnych činov.  Turning aside from your first intentions, and realizing what you had decided in your heart, O venerable Xenia, you left the vain delights of pleasures at that moment. O blessed one, you abandoned your own country and climbed straight up the rugged mountain of the virtues.

You fled the storm of this troubled world and reached the port of the holy isthmus, O venerable Xenia. Guarding your soul like a ship which can never be swamped by the bitter waves of pleasure, * you kept a straight course, bearing your mystic cargo.

By going into exile, you imitated the One who left the heights of heaven for our sake and came down to take away our sins. * O Xenia, you were unknown to your family, * yet well-known to the faithful as a ceaseless intercessor before God.

Glory, now and ever – Theotokion, or Stavrotheotokion

The aposticha are from the Octoechos.

Troparion,  Tone 8.  In you, O mother, the divine image was strictly preserved; * taking up your cross, you followed Christ. * You taught us by example how to spurn the flesh, for it passes away, * and how to care for the soul which is immortal. * Therefore, O venerable Xenia, your soul rejoices with the angels.
