Spiritual Songs in Honor of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus - that is, recognizing our Savior's great love for mankind, and making reparation for our own and others' ingratitude - developed in the Middle Ages among Latin Catholics, and was introduced among Ukrainian and Ruthenian Catholics after they entered into union with Rome.

Although this devotion is usually seem now-a-days as a foreign addition to our Eastern traditions, it is also the case that this "Western" devotions were much loved among the people, and served as a help in holding fast to the Faith under the persecutions that took place in the 20th century.

Note that the "Moleben to the Sacred Heart" continues to be used in our churches in an "Easternized" form, as the Moleben to Jesus, Lover of Mankind. Some of these hymns might be appropriate to use in connection with that service.
