Menaion

August 3

Our venerable fathers Isaac, Dalmatus, and Faustus. Dalmatus was an officer in the Roman army who abandoned all and entered the monastery where Isaac was abbot. His only son, Faustus, entered with him. Dalmatus followed Isaac as hegumen of the monastery, and took part in the Third Ecumenical Council (431), battling against the Nestorian heresy. (5th century)

The holy Salome the Myrrh-Bearer. Mother of the holy Apostles James and John, the wife of Zebedee, she served the Lord during his earthly life, and was made worthy to be among the first bearers of the tidings of his resurrrection.

At Vespers

music (samohlasen)

At "O Lord, I have cried": three stichera from the Octoechos, and three for the holy martyrs.

Tone 8, special melody Mučenicy tvoj, Hospodi. Lord, your saints came to resemble the bodiless Powers, * for by fasting and prayer, they dominated the bodily passions. * Impassible, and thus radiant, * they enlighten all hearts. * By their holy prayers, O Lord, grant your people great mercy.

Dalmatus and Isaac, moved by virtuous zeal, * overcame the heresy of Arius and Nestorius. * Struggling together with the Orthodox, * they enlightened the eyes of all. * By their holy prayers, O Lord, grant your people great mercy.

Having appeared in the firmament of asceticism, * O venerable fathers, * you shone upon the souls of monks like resplendent stars, * driving away the darkness of the demons. * After your death, we call you blessed, * O you who ceaselessly intercede for the salvation of all those * who celebrate your divine memory.

Glory, now and ever – Theotokion, or Stavrotheotokion

The aposticha are from the Octoechos.

Troparion,  Tone 4.  God of our fathers, you always deal with us in your kindness. * Take not your mercy away from us; * but through their prayers guide our life in peace.
