Menaion

June 9

Six sticheraOur holy father Cyril, bishop of Alexandria. He was elected to the see of Alexandria. In singular zeal for the fullness of the orthodox faith, he asserted dogmas at the Council of Ephesus concerning the one person in Christ and at the same time the divine maternity of the Virgin Mary. At Vespers

music (samohlasen)

There are six stichera at "O Lord, I have cried". (At weekday Vespers, each is sung twice.)

Tone 4, special melody Jako doblja. Your mind illumined by the light of the Spirit, * you became a radiant sun, * shining your teachings like rays upon the whole world. * You gave light to the assembly of believers, O blessed father Cyril, * and drove back the darkness of heresy * by the power of the mystic Sun who rose from the Virgin.

The entire Church is adorned by the elegance * of your discourses, O Cyril, triply-blessed hierarch. * She is radiant in the splendor of the Faith * as she reverently venerates your memory * O glory of the Orthodox, * spokesman for the Fathers gathered in Council, * and champion of the all-holy Mother of God.

O learned Cyril, by the fire of your teachings, * you burned up the weeds and thorns of heresy. * The depth of your thoughts * swallowed up the stubborn army of evil-thinkers. * Your wise teaching remains the daily beauty * of the Church of believers * who venerate you with a loud voice.

Glory – Tone 6. O good and faithful servant, laborer in the vineyard of Christ, * you bore the burden of the day, * and increased the talent entrusted to you; * and you did not envy those who came after you. * Therefore, the doors of heaven have been opened to you: * enter into the joy of your Lord, * and pray for us, O Cyril our father.

Now and ever – Theotokion, or Stavrotheotokion

The aposticha are from the Octoechos.

Troparion,  Tone 3. Your words reveal a treasure of theology for the world, * and they crushed the blasphemy of Nestor. * You defended the true glory of the Theotokos, O father Cyril. * Now pray to Christ to have mercy on us.
