music (samohlasen)

At "O Lord, I have cried", there are three stichera for the holy mother.

Tone 6, special melody Vsju otloživše.  Having first distanced yourself from the weight of the passions * by contemplating God, O Mary, * you then directed your desires and deeds to that which is on high. * Gazing at the icons of the all-pure Virgin * and resolutely renouncing all sin, * you confidently went to worship the precious Cross.

You joyfully visited the holy places, * nourished by virtue on the way of salvation, * rapidly travelling along the way of holiness. * Crossing the streams of the Jordan * and dwelling in the wilderness like John the Baptist, * you tames the rebelliousness of the flesh, * calming the wild nature of the passions, O venerable mother Mary, * by your holy way of life.

As you dwelt in the wilderness, * you erased from your soul the fantasies of the passion * in order to inscribe thereon the image of God by the light of the virtues. * You shone with such radiance that your lightly walked upon the waters * and were lifted up from the earth in your prayer to God. * Standing now with confidence before Christ, * O blessed Mary, * intercede with him for the salvation of our souls.

Glory – Tone 2. With the sword of asceticism, you severed the passions of the soul and flesh; * you stifled evil thoughts by the silence of your life of renunciation; * the streams of your tears watered the wilderness, * bringing forth fruits of repentance. * Thus we celebrate your holy memory, O venerable mother Mary.

Now and ever – Theotokion, or Stavrotheotokion

Troparion,  Tone 8. In you, O mother, the divine image was strictly preserved; * taking up your cross, you followed Christ. * You taught us by example how to spurn the flesh, for it passes away, * and how to care for the soul, which is immortal. * Therefore, O venerable Mary, your souls rejoices with the angels.

Or:

Troparion, Tone 3. While you had been a vessel of fornication, repentance made you a bride of Christ. * By imitating the life of an angel, you destroyed the devil by the power of the cross. * For this reason you became a bride for the King, O glorious Mary.
