Six sticheraPrefestive day of the Annunciation

Our venerable father Zachary. He was born in Egypt, and his father left his family to become a monk and took Zachary with him. God gave him great gifts of grace; he was a great light among the monks in the desert, and went to his peace in the Lord at an early age.

Our holy father Artemon, Bishop of Seleucia of Pisidia. Born and educated in Selucia, he encountered the Apostle Paul, who encouraged him and made him bishop of the city. Artemon guided the flock of Christ with love and zeal, and entered into rest at a great old age. (1st century)

At Vespers

music (samohlasen)

At "O Lord, I have cried", we sing the stichera from the Triodion, then the following stichera for the prefestive day:

Tone 4, special melody Jako doblja. The archangel Gabriel affirms the mystery * which was hidden and unknown to the angels; * he now comes to you, * the most pure and beautiful Dove, the Chosen One of the human race. * He cries out to you: Rejoice, O most Holy One, * prepare yourself to receive, by my word, * the Word of God in your womb. (if the Presanctified is served, this is sung twice)

A light-bearing palace, the pure womb of the handmaiden of God * has been prepared for you, O Master. * Come down and dwell within her. * In your love for your creation, * save us from the slavery of death * and restore us to our former beauty. * By your coming, grant us your peace and salvation.

O all-immaculate One, * the archangel Gabriel openly comes to you and cries out: * Rejoice, O Remission of the curse! * Rejoice, O Resurrection of the fallen! * Rejoice, for you alone were chosen for God! * Rejoice, O Chariot of the Sun of Glory! * Receive Him who is without flesh * and who desires to abide in your womb.

Glory, now and ever – Tone 2 samohlasen. Today Gabriel announces the good news to the woman full of grace: * Rejoice, O Virgin who has not known wedlock; * do not fear the strangeness of my appearance, * for I am an archangel. * Formerly, the serpent was the cause of grief to Eve, * but now it is great joy that I announce: * You shall remain a virgin, and yet you shall give birth to the Lord.

Entrance with censer, prokeimenon of the day, readings for the day, and the rest of the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts.

But if the Liturgy of the Presanctified Gifts is not served, then at the aposticha we sing the stichera of the Triodion, followed by:

Glory, now and ever – Tone 2.  That mystery which is from all eternity  is being revealed today.  The Son of God becomes the Son of Man.  He accepted the lowliest in order to give us the highest.  In times of old, Adam was deceived;  he desired to become like God and did not.  Now God becomes a man that He may make Adam God.  Let all creation be happy;  let nature dance with joy  because the archangel stands in awe before the Virgin and greets her.  He brings the greeting which changes our grief into joy.  Through the mercy of your compassion, You became incarnate;  O our God, glory to you!

Troparion, Tone 4.  Today is the prelude of joy for all the world * and hymns are sung in anticipation. * For, behold, Gabriel appears bring good news to the Virgin * and exclaims to her: * Rejoice, O Full of Grace, the Lord is with you.
