{"id":1155,"date":"2019-04-10T00:32:05","date_gmt":"2019-04-10T04:32:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mci.archpitt.org\/blog\/blog\/?p=1155"},"modified":"2019-04-10T00:32:05","modified_gmt":"2019-04-10T04:32:05","slug":"music-for-pascha-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mci.archpitt.org\/blog\/music-for-pascha-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Music for Pascha, Part 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As we move into the final week of the Great Fast, it&#8217;s time to move the <a href=\"https:\/\/mci.archpitt.org\/blog\/songs\/Hymnal_project.html\">Hymnal Project<\/a> forward and look seriously at music for the Great Fast.<\/p>\n<p>Strangely, we don&#8217;t have nearly as many paraliturgical hymns or spiritual songs for Easter as we do for other seasons; instead, we tend to sing the Paschal troparion (<a href=\"https:\/\/mci.archpitt.org\/prostopinije\/melodies\/Christ_is_risen.html\">Christ is risen from the dead<\/a>) a LOT, in both chant and choral versions.<\/p>\n<p>We do have one well-known spiritual song for Pascha (&#8220;Christ is risen \/ Joy from heaven&#8221;) which I will talk about later this week.\u00a0 And I had hoped to delve into our choral tradition, such as the music of our Archieparchial choir, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/mci.archpitt.org\/sheetmusic\/general\/Paschal_Hymns_Sybertsville.pdf\">settings of the Sybertsvile Franciscans<\/a>. But for better or worse, many of those don&#8217;t work nearly as well for ordinary congregational singing.
