Menaion

December 3

The holy prophet Zephaniah, who in the days of Josiah, king of Judah, announced the destruction of the ungodly on the day of the wrath of the Lord and strengthened the host of poor and needy people in the hope of salvation.

Day of Alleluia.

At Vespers

music (samohlasen)

At "O Lord, I have cried": three stichera from the Octoechos, and three for the holy prophet.

Tone 4, special melody Zvannyj svyše byv.  In your purified soul, * you received a ray from the eternal splendor of God, * making you his herald, O prophet Zephaniah, * a spokesman for God, * a mouth moved by the Holy Spirit. * You announced what had been taught by him, * revealing the salvation and Kingdom of Christ. * O venerable prophet, * beg him to grant light * and salvation to our souls.

Illumined by the vision of God * and prophetic contemplation, * you were graced with blessedness * and inspired by the Lord, O prophet Zephaniah. * Since you have boldness now with God, and compassion on us, * pray for those who honor you with faith * as a holy prophet of God. * Ask that we be delivered from all dangers and that we may be saved.

Immortal One, you made your prophet Zephaniah a cloud, * pouring out the water of eternal life. * You filled him with the Spirit * equal to you, O almighty Father * and to your only-begotten Son, * a light reflecting your brilliance. * Thus he foretold the saving coming of Christ our God * and revealed salvation to all of us.

Glory, now and ever – Theotokion, or Stavrotheotokion

The aposticha are from the Octoechos.
