Menaion

October 5

The holy martyr Charitina, who as a young girl faced the emperor Diocletian’s governor boldly and testified, “It is true that I am a Christian, and a lie that I delude others. I lead those in error to the way of truth, bringing them to my Christ.” She endured awful tortures for the sake of her Lord, and died for the glory of his name. (304)

music (samohlasen)

At "O Lord, I have cried": three stichera from the Octoechos, and three for the holy martyr.

Tone 4, special melody Jako dobl'a.  As the namesake of joy, * you passed over with joy to the heavenly bridal chamber, O most honored one. * There, since you endured the painful torment of fire * and the tearing out of all your teeth and nails, * you desired to reach your dwelling place, O athlete Charitina, greatly suffering virgin martyr.

You broke the jaws of the lions, * O greatly-suffering one, * as you endured the breaking of your own jaw. * You valiantly bore the tearing out of your nails, * thus tearing out the cruel savagery of deception. * Cast into the sea, you drowned the malice of the evil adversary.

Your father received you * after your blessed end, O glorious one. * You had been cast into the sea, and he cried out in awe: * "What grace was given to you through the torments of your sufferings, * my most holy and beloved child! * Truly you have justified your named that was sealed by grace!"

Glory, now and ever – Theotokion, or Stavrotheotokion

The aposticha are from the Octoechos.

Troparion, Tone 4. Your lamb Charitina, O Jesus, cries out in a loud voice: * I love you, my Bridegroom; I seek you with painful longing. * I am crucified with you; in your baptism, I am buried with you; *I suffer for you that I may reign with you; * and I die for you that I may live with you. * Receive me as a spotless sacrifice immolated with love for you. * By her prayers, O merciful One, save our souls.
